Frequently Asked Questions
Legal Nurse Consulting Services

Who employs Legal Nurse Consultants?

Legal Nurse Consultants primarily work with defense and plaintiff attorneys, and insurance companies.

Do you work with injured patients who are not represented by attorneys?

No. We only work with attorneys, insurance companies and healthcare facilities.

Why should an attorney use a Legal Nurse Consultant rather than a physician to screen a case?

Physicians may effectively provide some of the same services per hour that Legal Nurse Consultants provide. However, hiring a Legal Nurse Consultant is much more cost-effective. A physician may charge between $250 and $800 to initially screen a case. That is extremely expensive, especially when a large part of that time is spent organizing medical records and researching issues.

You are better off allowing a Legal Nurse Consultant to do those tasks so that you can better allocate your resources to physicians only on those cases where it is necessary and only at the time in the case when it becomes appropriate. Don’t forget many medical cases that are reviewed fail to meet the criteria necessary to prove the case. Why spend a fortune for a physician to tell you that?

Additionally, Med-Law Connection offers ancillary services that most physicians and other agencies do not provide, such as Case Management, Life Care Plans, assistance with Medicare Set-Aside Allocations, Medical Expert Location services and Exhibit Preparation for trial.

Why is it important to have a Legal Nurse Consultant summarize medical records in a medically related case?

A Legal Nurse Consultant is better able to read and interpret medical records than a paralegal, insurance adjuster or attorney. Legal Nurse Consultants are familiar with physician's handwriting, medical terminology and abbreviations. They can spot the significant clinical information that may otherwise be overlooked. They can point out both strengths and weaknesses of a case from a medical perspective and are able to identify missing components of the medical record.
